About Jonathan Hair

Jonathan Hair is an Australian author of dark urban fantasy and speculative fiction whose work blends cinematic momentum with emotional realism and mythic scale.

Raised in Central Queensland and now based in Brisbane, he grew up with a vivid imagination and an early love of craft—encouraged by his grandfather to study calligraphy and the architecture of words. Superhero comics, fantasy films, and The Wizard of Oz shaped a lifelong fascination with ordinary people confronting extraordinary power.

Jonathan writes high-impact, character-driven stories about power, identity, consequence, and the thin line between light and darkness—what it means to carry responsibility, stand against impossible odds, and stay human amid cosmic forces.

His short story “A Crown of Dust” received an Honourable Mention in the 2025 NYC Midnight Short Story Competition (Fairy Tale / Fool’s Paradise / A Housekeeper) — results, a recognition that marked his emergence as a voice in modern fantasy.

His debut novel, Thorn and Thunder (Book One of The Aetheris Saga), arrives March 2026 from JH Books. Alongside the series, he is developing stand-alone projects and short fiction outside the Aetheris universe.

Jonathan lives in Brisbane with his partner, Aaron, and their seal point ragdoll cat, Zelda—an exacting editor who prefers sunbeams to deadlines.
